David Powers

Professor Mathematics
David Powers has served several roles as a mathematics educator. He was a high school math teacher for twenty years at both the Hayward Unified and Pleasanton Unified School Districts. He was an Advanced Placement calculus teacher and helped create new curriculum in both districts. He also helped his schools in transitioning to the previous no child left behind and current common core state standards.
David also worked for four years as an instructor and curriculum developer for the SMASH Academy through the Level Playing Field Institute. This is a non-profit organization based in San Francisco working to help increase underrepresented populations. Additionally, he has also taught classes as a graduate student at CSU East Bay and has done some private tutoring.
Currently, David is a full time mathematics instructor at Las Positas College in Livermore. He earned his Bachelor's degree in 1996 and his Master's degree in 2006, both in mathematics from CSU East Bay. He also holds a California Teaching Credential in mathematics
